Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Washington County Ambulance Service to provide the most professional and highly trained pre-hospital care to our patients as possible. It is our duty to increase public relations within Washington County as well as other local areas and state offices. We are to encourage the initial and continuing medical education of our staff and stay abreast of the ever-changing scopes of practice in the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

We strive to promote and foster pre-hospital intervention for patients and families and work on issues pertaining to EMS.  We will continue to work regionally with our sisters and brothers in EMS.  We will continue to be a beacon of support for our fellow citizens and promote pride and professionalism.  We are dedicated to LEARNING and to keep an OPEN MIND about CHANGE.

About the Washington County Ambulance Service

The Washington County Ambulance Service provides 24/7 Advanced Life Support (ALS) coverage for the majority of Washington County. The communities of Akron, Otis, Anton, Last Chance, Lindon, Woodrow, Arickaree, and Woodlin are served by 2 full-time paramedics, 3 part-time paramedics, 1 part-time EMT Intermediate, 7 part-time EMTs, and 3 volunteer drivers.  ALS equipped ambulances are located in the following towns: Akron (2), Otis (1), Anton (1), and Last Chance (1).  The daily primary response team consists of a 2-person crew (1 paramedic and 1 EMT), that is primarily based out of Akron or Otis. Washington County does not have a hospital so most non-emergent patients are transported to level 4 hospitals (Yuma District Hospital or East Morgan County Hospital in Brush).  Patients with more serious traumatic injuries are transported to level 3 trauma centers (Centura Common Spirit in Fort Morgan or Sterling Regional Medical Center).  Trauma patients requiring specialized level 1 or 2 trauma care as well as patients with serious cardiac or respiratory medical emergencies are occasionally flown by chopper from scenes or rendezvous locations.  The City of Yuma Ambulance covers eastern Washington County and South Y-W Ambulance covers Cope and small corner of southeast Washington County.  Morgan County Ambulance and Logan County Ambulance also cover a segment of I-76 and Pruit Reservoir.  Washington County Ambulance Staff works to ensure that quality patient care is available to all Washington County residents and visitors.
