Clerk and Recorder's Office

The Clerk and Recorder's Office administers election procedures and voter registration, acts as agent for the State Department of Revenue to handle motor vehicle and driver’s license transactions, issues marriage and civil union licenses, handles liquor licensing, records real estate and other legal documents for posterity and reference, and serves as clerk of the Board of County Commissioners.  The County Clerk shall be, in and for his county, Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners. 


Colorado Revised Statutes describe Clerk of the Board Duties as: record in a book to be provided for that purpose, all proceedings of the Board, make regular entries of all resolutions and decisions concerning the raising of money, record the vote of each commissioner on any question submitted to the board and except when specifically provided otherwise by law, sign all order issued by the board for the payment of money. Preserve and file all accounts acted upon by the board, with their action thereon, and to perform other duties as are required by law. The County Clerk and Recorder shall attend the sessions of the Board either in person or by deputy, keep the County Seal, records and papers of the Board, and keep a record of the proceedings of the board, as required by law, under the direction of the board.

The Clerk and Recorder is charged with performing all the duties required of the county clerk and recorder by the Colorado Constitution.

The Clerk and Recorder is the agency of Washington County government comprised of staff who assist the officer in performance of the duties and services required of the office.

The Clerk and Recorder records, preserves, and makes available to the public certain vital documents relating to real estate transactions, Council proceedings, copies of deeds, tax liens, marriage licenses, UCC filings, and any other documents that have been recorded in Washington County.
